A suspected highway robber has been shot and killed along the Masaka-Rakai road.
The suspect mounted an illegal roadblock at Butaaya village in Kabonera Sub County.
His intention to rob the early morning passengers traveling to Rakai fell flat, when one of the residents pulled out a gun and fired at the robber.
The robber has been identified as Muhamood Mwanje, a resident of Kyazanga in Lwengo.
The gunshots attracted the attention of the Rapid Response Unit personnel headed by David Agaba.
Agaba says that on arrival at the scene, they found the dead body with a wound on the chest.
A voter's card, mobile phone and 12,600 shillings were recovered from the deceased.
Agaba says that a search into the phone showed that Mwanje had communicated to several people, but on trying to call the numbers, the respondents switched off.
At the scene of the incident, were huge tree branches and big sticks, which the robbers used to mount road, block in the corner of the road.
The body has been taken to Masaka Referral hospital, for postmortem as investigation into the matter starts.
