A police officer attached to Kajjansi police station has committed suicide.
Patrick Enunga, shot himself on Monday shortly after he returned from night patrol.
Preliminary investigations show that the policeman killed himself after suspecting that he could have contracted the HIV virus.
According to his colleagues at the station, Enunga decided to take his life after learning that he could have contracted the HIV virus from a girl in Kajjansi.
It all started after the condom Enunga used during his sexual contact with a girl burst. Writhing with fear the policeman rushed for an HIV test, which proved positive. He was allegedly told that he could change this status by taking medication before three weeks.
He however didn't have the money to buy the medicine and decided to open up to his official wife in Mbale, and demanded for some money.
But the wife refused to heed to his please for money.
With frustration lingering over his head, the policeman locked himself in the room and
Pumped six bullets through his jaw, dying on the spot.
Police in Kajjansi broke into his house and found his body lying in a pool of blood; they also recovered a piece paper, which contained the results of Enunga and the girl.
Ibn Senkumbi, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, says Enunga's action came as a surprise for the colleagues at Kajjansi police station.
Senkumbi described Enunga as calm and humble police officer.
