Vincent Ssempijja, the Kalungu East parliamentary candidate has been arrested for illegal gun possession. Ssempijja was picked up by police at Kalungu district headquarters following reports that he used his gun to stir violence against his rival.
Noah Sserungoji, the Southern Region Police spokesperson says that Ssempijja is wanted to answer for the source of his gun. He says that police wants Ssempijja to explain where he got the gun since he is not licensed to carry a gun.
He says that during the arrest police recovered more than 60 rounds of ammunitions from Ssempijja is still tracing for the gun. Ssempijja's troubles started after Florence Kintu, the Kalungu district NRM woman parliamentary candidate accused him of threatening to shoot her supporters.
Kintu alleges that over the weekend, Ssempijja and a group of his supporters stormed her rallies over disrupted it. According to Kintu who is also the Kalungu district LC5 Chairperson, Ssempijja moves in a number of vehicles with Jameo Kiberu, an independent woman parliamentary candidate and intimidates voters.

She claims that Ssempijja and his team have created tension and defaced all her posters and his rival Umar Lule Mayiya, the Kalungu East NRM Parliamentary candidate.
But Vincent Ssempijja says that his arrest is politically motivated but has nothing to do with guns. He says he acquired the gun legally for his personal security and has its license.
Ssempijja claims that he has evidence that some soldiers are persecuting him because of his overwhelming support in Kalungu East against NRM candidate Umar Mawiya.
