An unidentified Uganda People's Defense Forces soldier has shot an injured Charles Zziwa, a campaign agent of Mathias Mpuuga, the MP elect for Masaka Municipality.




The incident occurred at around 5:30 am this morning next to Total pump station along the Masaka-Mbarara highway.


It came minutes after Ephraim Tugume; the Masaka Returning Officer declared Mpuuga elected Masaka Municipality Member of parliament.



Charles Nakku Musana, the campaign manager of Mathias Mpuuga explains that after the release of the official poll results they started celebrating the victory of their candidate.




He says that when they reached at Total Pump station, along the Masaka-Mbarara highway an unidentified UPDF soldier approached them and asked them in Swahili why they were making noise for people deep in the night.



Zziwa says that they told the soldier they were celebrating the victory of Mathias Mpuga.
According to Musana, the soldier fired in the air before turning the gun on Zziwa and shooting him in the leg.



He explains that Zziwa that was severely injured in the uncle and admitted at Masaka referral hospital. Noah Sserunjogi, the Southern Regional Police Spokesman says that they have started investigating the incident.


According to official polls results released by Ephraim Tugume this morning, Mpuuga 15, 103 votes, his rival the incumbent MP John Khawanga Polled 3382 votes, while NRM's FX Kiiza Mujobe polled 5537 votes.


Other candidates Susan Nakawuki polled 2698 votes, Godfre Ssenyondo 322 and peter Mutesasira 80 votes.
