Hoima municipality was operationalised in July 2010.

Kajura was declared winner at 8:00pm, by Erasmus Kimbowa, the Hoima district returning officer.

Kajura's victory ushered in a wave of celebrations including a disco dance at Hoima taxi Park.

Kajura outpolled his nearest rival and independent candidate, Dr Patrick Mwesigwa Isingoma and three other candidates.

He polled 13, 235 votes against Isingoma's 8,068 votes. FDC's Patrick Baguma, polled 3,887 votes; UPC's Sephian Kandole, garnered 209 votes, while independent candidate Hillary Bisoborwa, polled 149 votes.

Results show the minister maintained a clear lead from all the four Divisions of the Municipality.

James Mugenyi Mulindambura, Kajura's campaign team chairman, says he was sure that Kajura would win the election.

Although Kajura's supporters celebrate, his rivals and their supporters accuse the minister of buying and ferrying voters to some polling stations.
But Geoffrey Tibenda, a member of Kajura's campaign team down plays the allegations but instead accuses some of Kajura's rivals of vote buying.
