Hundreds of UPC supporters in Kitgum, took to the streets this morning to protest the out come of the Chua County parliamentary election.
Led byGaston Okello, the UPC party chairman for Kitgum, the protesters marched through the several streets of Kitgum town, demanding for the nullification of the election results, that put NRM's Henry Okello Oryem, in the lead.
Oryem emerged victor after beating the incumbent, Livingstone Okell-Okello of UPC.
Singing pro-Okello-Okello songs, the protestors claimed there were several election malpractices by NRM candidate, including intimidation of voters, voter bribery and vote buying among others.
They carried placards some of which read;"our votes were robbed by NRM", "we want free and fair election".
Police however intervened immediately and stopped the processions on grounds that the protesters did not seek police permission to demonstrate.
Okello Oryem, however says he won because of his unique leadership and will go ahead to implement NRM's manifesto.
But Okello Okello, describes the whole election process in Chua county as a sham and has refused to concede defeat.
