Security in Jonam County, Nebbi district has been stepped up, following reports about a possible outbreak of post election violence.
On Monday, a truck loaded with anti riot police, trailed its way from Nebbi to Jonam County.
Alex Wabwire, the Nebbi district police commander, says the boost in security stems from the simmering mistrust between the supporters of Emmanuel Ongiertho, who lost the election for the Jonam county parliamentary seat, and Jacan Omach, winner of the parliamentary seat.
Since Saturday, Tension in Jonam County has been high, after Fred Jachan Omach, the state minister for Finance, was declared the winner of Jonam county Member of Parliament.
Omach polled 15, 483 votes to beat of his three rivals. FDC's Ongiertho Emmanuel came second with 12,912 votes, followed by Onegi – Obel Apollo Dascio, with 4,637 votes and Chris Opoka, (UPC) got 2,278 votes.
Efforts to get comment from Ongiertho was futile, because his Phone was not going through, but Onegi – Obel Apollo Dascio (NRM Independent) who was third in the race, accused Omach for bribing voters with money.
Onegi Obel claims that the electuion in which Jachan Omach was declared winner, was fraught with massive voter bribery.
Omach whose result is being protested, has urged all the disgruntled parties to instead join him and develop the constituency.
