Patrick Lumumba, the FDC Mayoral Candidate for Gulu Municipality has been arrested for breach of electoral regulations.

Lumumba was picked up this morning by Police for driving into a polling station at Kasubi central parish in Bardege division with posters of FDC candidates including those of Martin Ojara Mapinduzi, the FDC LC V candidate pinned on his vehicle.

Moses Byabagye, the officer in charge of criminal investigations says that Lumumba is being held for breaking electoral laws. He says that is illegal for any one to display campaign materials at a polling station.

Ojara Martin Mapinduzi, Gulu district FDC chairperson who is also contesting the LC V seat says that he is not yet aware why Lumumba has been arrested.

Lumumba who has been serving as the district council deputy speaker becomes the second official FDC party candidate to be arrested over allegations of breaching electoral laws.

Last week, Gulu municipality MP elect, Christopher Acire was arrested on the eve of parliamentary elections and charged with using a language that would incite violence.

He was released by court after paying bond of shillings 400,000 in cash.

It's not clear whether Lumumba's arrest could affect his candidature.
