Four people have been arrested in Local council five elections in Mayuge district.


Julliet Nabirye, Chrizestom Taasi, Richard Oketch and Sulaiman Muteganya are being detained at Mayuge post, pending further investigations.


Julliet Nabirye, has been a polling assistant at Mayuge town council Dwaliro polling station. She was arrested by police this afternoon after she got a lift from Stanley Bayole, one of the contestants for Mayuge chairperson.

Paddy Bogere, the Mayuge District Criminal Investigations officer, says his office has recieved several cases of election violence from Busakira, Namisu, Bwonda, Magamaga and Bukaboli polling station, where Chrysostom Taasi, Richard Oketch and Sulaiman Muteganya, were arrested beating up people using sticks.


Five candidates are contesting for the Mayuge Local council Five Stanley Bayole for the Inter Party Coalition, Omar Bongo, for the National Resistance Movement, Dawuda Isanga, Ishak Magemeso and Samuel Mulungi are independent candidates.


Omar Bongo, says there are people who are not eligible to vote who have been ferried into Mayuge for the Local council five vote which will affect the outcome of the final count of votes.

Stanley Bayole, denies having any connection with the polling assistant and vows to arrest any person stealing ballot papers.

Mary Ekima, Mayuge district Returning officer, says the cases are being handled with police.
