Police in Masaka have arrested a journalist for allegedly inciting violence.
Ssozi Lwazi Ssekimpi, the news editor and talk show host at Top radio in Masaka was arrested this morning.
Noah Sserunjogi, the southern region police spokesperson says, that Ssekimpi was arrested in connection with the remarks he made while reviewing the newspapers on Saturday.
The police spokesperson however refused to divulge the nature of the statements that the journalist made. He however says that Ssekimpi divulged the details of the arrest of Ephraim Tugume Mugisha the returning officer.
Mugisha is being detained for his alleged involvement in corruption.
Ssekimpi escaped arrest on Saturday when police led by Amooti Musime, the community liaison officer, stormed Top Radio offices at Bwala hill in Masaka town.
He was grilled for three hours at the political desk office.
But the journalist has denied any wrongdoing. He says that he informed his audience that the returning officer was arrested and did not incite the listeners into violence.
Sadab Kitatta, The coordinator Masaka Human Right Network for Journalists has condemned Ssekimpi's arrest. He says that the association will decide the next plan of action after Ssekimpi has been interrogated.
