A meeting between members of Tooro kingdom clan council and Apollo Karugaba, the new kingdom premier has ended prematurely because disagreements over the powers of attorney that King Oyo granted to some kingdom officials.

The meeting which took place this morning at the kingdom headquarters at Mucwa chambers in Fort Portal town was chaired by the new kingdom premier, Apollo Karugaba. He was accompanied by Shem Rubaale, the deputy premier and Tooro kingdom regent, Rev. Richard Baguma.

The meeting was meant to persuade members of the clan council to withdrawal the case they filed against King Oyo in Fort Portal high court.

Prior to the meeting, members of the clan council had listed their demands before the case is withdrawn. Top on the agenda was the issue of the powers of attorney which were given by King Oyo to Augustine Kayonga, Patrick Kawamara and Francis Mugenyi.

According to the powers of attorney, Kayonga, Mugenyi and Kawamara are to carry out all land transactions on behalf of the king while he is away.

During the heated meeting, Fredrick Nyakabwa, the secretary of the clan council told the Prime Minister that the powers of attorney granted by King Oyo should be revoked.

Nyakabwa said that if the King grants the powers of attorney, it means that the he has surrendered his powers to individuals, which is against the kingdom constitution.

He also says that Oyo should have consulted the kingdom‘s supreme council before granting the powers.

Karugaba told the members that they should withdrawal the case and join King Oyo to develop the kingdom. He also told the members that appointments made by the king are final and should never be disputed.

However he was booed by the clan council members, as they walked out of the chambers.

Karugaba tried to plead with the council members to return, but they refused.

Steven Nyamutale, the chairperson of the clan council says that they will continue with the court case if the powers of attorney are not revoked.

Cue out: "...continue with the case."//

Since William Nyakatura was sacked as Tooro kingdom premier, there have been conflicts in the kingdom. The clan council members accuse some kingdom officials of misleading King Oyo to make decisions that are unconstitutional.
