Kiboko Squad Leader Arrested

Juma Ssemakula, the self styled commander of Kiboko squad has been arrested in connection to the violence that marred the Kampala Mayoral election last week.

Ssemakula was picked up this morning from Kireka by operatives of the Rapid Response Unit on the directives of Kale Kayihura, the Inspector General of Police.



His arrest follows an interview in Bukedde Newspaper and Saturday vision in which he confessed beating up voters at Kakeeka during the botched Kampala Mayoral elections.



Three journalists Linda Nabazziwa of Bukedde, Jane Anyango of UBC TV and Nicholas Bbale of Channel 44 and several other people were injured in the attack.



Judith Nabakooba, the police spokesperson says that they have opened a general inquiry file against Ssemakula because police has not formal complaint against the suspect.



Nabakooba explains that members of the public who were injured during the attack can report to the Regional Criminal Investigations Officer Kampala, Paul Kato to help with investigations


Last year the Inspector General of Police Maj. Gen. Kale Kayihura ordered the Assistant Inspector General of Police Special Duties to investigate the composition and operations of the Kiboko Squad.

Following the investigations police were shocked at the composition and they always come out handy to held the police.
