James Okello, the former candidate for Bar-Dege Division LC V Councilor's seat has been arrested for giving police false information. Okello is accused of faking his own kidnap with intentions of winning sympathy votes.
Okello was picked up this morning and charged with giving police false information. His arrest stems from his earlier claim to the police that he was kidnapped by unknown gun on the eve of the district council elections.
Okello told police that he was kidnapped along the airfield road around 8:00pm by men traveling in a double cabin pick-up truck while traveling back home.
He claimed that his attackers bundled him on the truck and drove away with him. Okello alleged that he was abandoned after two days along Sir Samuel baker road in Layibi division.
Johnson Kilama, Northern Regional Police spokesman says that police investigation found out that Okello and his accomplice Michael Ocen faked the kidnap to win votes.
He says that the suspects will be taken to court tomorrow and if found guilty they could be imprisoned for not less than six months. Okello who contested the LC V councilor's seat on the FDC ticket lost to NRM's Ann Sabiti.
