Incumbent Lira mayor seeks Court Order for Vote Recount

Peter Guduzu Owiny, the Lira municipality incumbent mayor, who lost his bid for re-election has petitioned the electoral commission seeking for a vote recount.

Owiny had earlier conceded defeat and accepted to work with the winner.

But on March 4th, the incumbent Mayor, petitioned court seeking a vote recount.

In his letter to the district Registrar, Owiny says that he was robbed of his victory through irregular vote counting. He argues that some of his valid votes were counted as invalids resulting into a loss.

But Lira district registrar Patrick Ocana, on Saturday dismissed Owiny's claim saying the votes were counted in the presence of his agents.

Micheal Ogwal Achonga (UPC) who also lost in the race has advised Owiny to accept defeat.

Morish Odung, the winner of the Lira municipality Mayoral seat has appealed to Owiny to respect the mandate of the people who voted him out of the seat, which he has held since 2001.
