A man who was found exhuming a dead body in Hoima survived death, after a group of angry residents pounced on him over the weekend.
Collins Adipo, a resident of Kiryatete lower in the suburbs of Hoima town, was found at the tomb of the late Kato Bantebya, who was buried last Thursday.
Sylivia Bantebya, a daughter to the deceased, says the suspect was cited thrice at the tomb raising suspicions about his intentions.
Joan Bantebya, another daughter of the deceased, says Adipo was found squatting on the tomb, while at the same time sprinkling some liquid on top of the tomb.
The daughters of the deceased raised an alarm attracting the attention of the neighborhood. One by one the residents came running and rounded up Adipo.
David Atwine, a neighbor who responded to the alarm says they recovered a cigarette and other herbal concoctions at the grave.
The residents armed with sticks, and stones beat him up until the area chairman Peter Mayanja, alerted police leading to his rescue.
Alex Alidipo, the Hoima police OC station, says that the suspected cannibal would be charged with violation of the deceased rights.
