Gulu Student Killed in Hit-and-Run Accident

A 19-year-old student was today knocked dead in a hit-and-run accident in Gulu district.

The accident took place on Gulu-Kampala highway near Minakulu trading centre in Bobi Sub-County.

George Odong, a Senior One student of St. Thomas Moore School in Minakulu was walking along the road when the speeding car knocked him dead. He died on the spot and the police took his body to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital mortuary fro a postmortem.

The Gulu traffic officer, Okoya Kaggwa, said the driver of the vehicle sped away and could not be arrested.

Earlier this morning, a Juba-bound bus accident left 27passengers, five of them Kenyans, injured. The bus overturned 12 kilometers on the Gulu-Nimule road.

Kaggwa said the bus veered off the road and overturned. He attributed the accident to speeding and the poor condition of the road.

On Tuesday a Kenyan registered trailer travelling to Juba in South Sudan killed a woman at Layibi trading centre on the same Gulu- Kampala highway.

The victim Dorcus Akao, a resident of Layibi trading centre in Gulu Municipality, died on arrival at Gulu Hospital.
