Santu Laxman, a resident of Kabale municipality is threatening to sue Kabale Municipality for the alleged illegal possession of land.

The land under contention is located on plots 2-4 along stadium road.

Laxman claims that the municipal council gave the land currently serving as the premises for Garage street market to him in the 1990’s. He however says that he was stunned when he was pushed out of the land with no clear reasons.

What is not yet clear though, is whether the land was leased to him. He has forwarded the matter to the lands ministry.

On December 16th 2010, Edwards Ochieng Sunday, purportedly from the lands ministry wrote a letter asking Kabale municipal council to meet and resolve the matter.

Couyncil however snubbed the meeting, forcing Laxman to seek further intervention of state house.

Peter Masiko, the Kabale municipality-acting town clerk, says council has all the documentary evidence to show that they are the rightful owners.

Masiko says that council is ready to defend its case.
