Ssekikubo Demands Special Probe into Election Irregularities

Election
Lwemiyaga Member of parliament, Theodore Ssekikubo is pushing for a special committee that will investigate election irregularities that occurred in the February-March general elections.

Theodore Ssekikubo, the  Lwemiyaga county Member of parliament, plans to table a motion in parliament  questioning the conduct of Electoral Commission in the February and March elections countrywide.

Ssekikubo is pushing for a special committee that will investigate election irregularities that occurred.

The MP says that it is time  Uganda reviews the role of Electoral Commission in elections. He is sad that more than 25 years after President Yoweri Museveni went to the bush because elections were rigged; the country still faces the  election malpractices.

He wants parliament to set up a select committee to expeditiously investigate the electoral irregularities that dotted some parts of Uganda.

Ssekikubo questions how ballot papers got from the Electoral Commission found their way into the wrong hands of several individuals. He says Some EC staff were compromised in their line of duty. Ballot stuffing, bloated register and missing names characterised the exercise.

Last week, many MPs expressed dissatisfaction at the way Electoral Commission conducted its work in the elections. The legislators recounted the cost of the election violence on their voters.

Many MPs survived the elections without injuries except for a few like Nandala Mafabi.  Mafabi told parliament that the military dominated in the campaigns in Budadiri West constituency. Violence was reported in the area which saw a journalist shot on the chest. The MP is still nursing a bullet wound several weeks after the elections.

Wadri Kassiano, MP Terego County said that legislators need time for psycho therapy to cushion themselves from badly conducted elections.

Parliament is set to debate the motion on Tuesday to determine whether or not to create a special committee.
