A speeding lorry has knocked dead a promising local musician Sunday Driti in Adjumani district.
The accident happened last evening in Marindi village.
Driti, known by the stage name Alpha Force, was riding his motorcycle when he crashed into the lorry. The lorry reportedly had just one head lamp on and is thought to have confused Driti into thinking it was another motorcycle.
The lorry pushed him off the road and he fell down hitting his head on the road side and began bleeding produsely. He died on the way to Adjumani Hospital.
The ill fated lorry was carrying Alere Seconday School students from Paridi stadium back to school after emerging victors in the Copa Coca-Cola football competition for Adjumani district.
According to the police, apart from over speeding, the lorry was also in poor mechanical condition. It had reportedly broken down twice along the way.
Adjumani District Police Commander Fred Segirinya described the accident as unfortunate. He appeals to road users to adhere to the traffic rules and regulations to reduce on the rincreasing rate of accidents in the district.
The DPC said the truck driver, Alias Shaban, has been arrested and is being interrogated before being charged in court for inconsiderate driving and other traffic offences.
Driti will be remembered for his scintillating songs Baru, which means home, and Janet which depicts the suffering and unfaithfulness in a household due to biting poverty.
