Sacked Kitgum Town Clerk Threatens Legal Action

Local government
The sacked Kitgum Town Clerk has threatened to deag the council to court over discrimination based on gender. She said her sacking was orchestrated by people who think women cannot be leaders and want the decision reversed.
Rhoda Oroma, the sacked Kitgum town clerk, has threatened to drag the town council authorities for wrongful dismissal and gender discrimination.

Oroma made her feelings known after the council resolved to sack her on Tuesday 29th March. On her legal target are the LC3 chairperson, Richard Ojara, the speaker, Walter To-Oroma and the Kitgum LC 3council.

During the council session, councilors accused Oroma of working illegally when her contract of acting as a town clerk had expired. They also accused her of arrogance and absenteeism from duty most of the time.

Now Oroma has added another dimension to the problem. She says the councilors resolved to sack her because she is a woman.

She claims that many councilors led by the chairperson and the speaker forced her out of the office because they said they cannot work with a woman.

Oroma also accuses the councilors of sectarianism, asying they accused her of being a born of Gulu and for that matter cannot be the town clerk of Kitgum town council.

Based on this, Oroma believes her sacking was orchestrated by individuals who had personal issues against her, but not her failure to perform.

Oroma says she has had excellent performance records in various positions she held before joining the town council.
She says she is filing a court case against the LCIII chairperson, the Speaker and the council for discriminating her based on her gender.

Cue in:  I am a woman ...

Cue out:  …come from another district.

Oroma has also accused the council of witch hunting her because she has refused to condone their corrupt acts, citing stolen fuel and fake trips organized by councilors.

Richard Ojara, the Kitgum town council chairperson, has denied the allegations of corruption. He says Oroma can proceed with the court action against the council because he is sure the council will win.

Cue in:  No problem I am ...

Cue out:  …proceed wither her suit.

The Kitgum Town Council Speaker, Walter To-Oroma, said by attempting to sue the council and individuals, Oroma wants to cover up her weaknesses.

According to To-oroma, he acted as speaker of the council and not as an individual when the decision to sack her was made. He said he welcomes the legal action threat and assured Oroma of a defeat.

Cue in: How can she sue me…

Cue out: …as the public servant.

To-Oroma says Oroma's action indicates her lack of knowledge of relevant laws governing her work.

But an upbeat and defiant Oroma has vowed to expose more rot in the town council, including high level of corruption orchestrated by the politicians.
