Crime
Police at Lira central station have arrested Minyang Fred Walter, the councilor elect for Ayago parish to Lira municipal council for allegedly giving false information to police.

The false information led to the arrest and torture of an innocent citizen.

Henry Alyanga, the Central North police spokesman, says Minyang and his accomplice Isaac Apenyo, will be charged with giving false information to a person employed by public service contrary to section 175 sub section C, of the penal code.

Jacob Kiyengo, the officer in charge of the Rapid Response Unit in Lira said Minyang and Apenyo Isaac on the 3rd April 2011 gave him information that Obeny George and Opio Denis Otema, were in possession of illegal firearm.

Acting on this tip, the Rapid Response Unit personel arrested the tow but after a thorough investigation, they found out that the suspects were falsely accused.

The suspects were released on bond and a search for the whistleblowers began, leading to the councilors arrest.

On interrogation however, the councilor says that he gave the information after the suspects attacked him at Kitgum stage.

He admitted reporting to RRU that Obeny and Opio had a gun, information that he had not verified.

Minyang will be produced in court as soon as his file is brought back from the resident state attorney.
