FDC leader Kiiza Besigye has been allowed to proceed with the walk to work protest almost four hours after a big stand off with the police.
Besigye is proceeding to the FDC offices in Najjanankumbi, accompanied by an estimated 500 supporters. His supporters are shielding him as they proceed towards Kampala city.
It is not yet clear under what conditions Besigye was eventually allowed to proceed with his walk.
Besigye says there was no deal reached, adding that all he wants is to walk to his office with no police disruption.
But Vincent Ssekatte, the Deputy police spokesperson says that police achieved greatly when Besigye moved out of the trench paving way for a clear flow of traffic along the Kampala-Gayaza road.
Meanwhile, all police officers and the tear gas trucks have been withdrawn from Kasangati.
