Over 10 people were this afternoon rushed to Masaka Hospital after a pulpit they were standing on during the Muteesa Royal University graduation ceremony collapsed under their weight.
Simon Mukasa, an eye witness says that trouble started when over 100 pupils of Nabinenya primary school climbed on the pulpit to get a glimpse of Kabaka Ronald Mutebi who presiding over the graduation.
Mukasa explains that minutes after the pulpit collapsed hitting more than 50 other people who were sheltered under it to escape the scorching sun.
He says that immediately, the Kabaka’s royal guards swung into action and pulled away the pulpit to save some of the people who trapped beneath it and were screaming for help.
Two of the ten people have been identified as Steven Magembe, a pupil of Nabinene primary school and a one Esther, a resident of Ssaza village.
Dr. Stuart Musisi, Masaka district health officer arrived at the scene and immediately ordered all the injured be rushed to hospital for treatment. A prayer was read immediately to thank God for saving the people from dying before Kabaka Mutebi and the situation normalized.
Kabaka Mutebi, was enthroned ask as the chancellor of the university and immediately passed out over 1000 grandaunts. He advised Students to aim at creating their own jobs rather seeking for white collar jobs in the market.
