Walk to work protesters in Ibanda have vowed to stage mass protests on Good Friday to coincide with the day when Christians commemorate the death of Jesus Christ.
Led by Augustine Mugisha, the FDC party shadow education minister in Ibanda district, the protesters says they have resolved to “walk to work” on good Friday and not even police intimidation will deter their plans.
Mugisha argues that the "Walk to Work" protests on Good Friday will resonate with the pain and suffering that Jesus christ went through to meet his death.
Earlier, Protazio Tigurihwayo, the resident district commissioner, warned the people in Ibanda against the protests. He was allegedly quoted saying that anyone willing to protest should write a will and also seek for God’s mercy.
But Mugisha, insists that their walk to work protests will begin from Ruyonza to Nsasi.
In Ibanda, the protesters are irked not only by the high food and fuel prices, but also by the lack of safe water and the poor state of roads in the district.
