Elders of Acholi Patiko Kal clan have defied a court order and installed Bongo- Jane Muttu as the new chief of their clan. Bongo- Jane Muttu was enthroned yesterday as chief of Acholi Patiko Clan replacing his father Rwot Israel Lagara Muttu, who passed away in November last year.
On April 14th, three brothers of Bongo- Jane Muttu secured a court injunction blocking his enthronement. The applicants, Dick Openy Muttu, Godfrey Lubangakene Muttu and Martin Oloya Muttu argued that the family had not decided on the heir of their father.
High court is yet to set the date for hearing the application. Despite the court, elder went ahead and enthroned Bongo- Jane Muttu. Today, Opwonya Ayubi, Chairman Patiko Ker Kal Kwaro elder’s council defended their decision to enthrone Bongo-Jane Mutu saying that he was appointed heir by his late father.
He said that the late Rwot made the pronouncement in the presence of elders and the chiefs of Lamogi and Alero. He said that decision taken by the three brothers to go to court was against the tradition of Patiko.
Nekanori Lukwiya, chairman board of trustee for the enthronement said the anointment was in line with the culture of the Kal clan. The three brothers have not yet commented to the installment of Bongomin as they could not be reached by our reporter.
