Richard Turyomunsi, the Nyendo police detective arrested on Monday for allegedly receiving a bribe has been transferred to Kampala and will appear in the anti corruption court.
Turyomunsi has been whisked away to Kampala by officials from the Inspectorate of Government.
Turyomunsi was arrested on Monday by detectives from the IGG's office moments after receiving a bribe of shillings 100.000 from, Jovas Kizza, a Nyendo based video hall proprietor.
Kizza alleges that Turyomunsi asked him for a bribe so as to release a 24-Inch television set that was impounded from his video hall by police as an exhibit. Kizza explains that he was arrested last month for alleged theft and taken to Nyendo Police post when he was found selling his own TV set.
Kizza says that he was released on police bond but the Television set was kept as an exhibit. Kizza says that days after his release, Turyomunsi and other cops asked him to give them shillings 220,000 to close the case and return his TV set.
He says that he paid Turyomunsi shillings 120,000 last month and promised to clear the balance this month. Kiiza however, decided to tip off the Inspectorate of Government and a trap was laid for the cop.
On the day of his arrest, Turyomunsi threatened to beat up detectives attached to the IGG’s office whom he accused of witch-hunting him. He also threatened to beat up Reuben Bainomujuni, the Southern Region Inspector General of Government.
This morning, Bainomujuni stormed Masaka central police station with several policemen and picked Turyomunsi before driving off to Kampala. Bainomujuni explains that since Masaka does not have an anti- corruption court, he has decided to take him to Kampala where he will be charged as soon as possible.
Cue in: “He received…….”
Cue out: “….he must appear before the anti-corruption court.”
Bainomujuni also says he has opened up investigations into several officers attached to Nyendo police station over allegations of bribery.
When asked to comment on the allegations against him, Turyomunsi simply shouted that he is ready for whatever comes his way.
