Security In Kamwenge remained tight on Friday, following reports that the opposition FDC party members were planning to stage a demonstration to show their dissatisfaction
over the February general elections and the hiking of fuel and commodity prices
in the country.
Anti-riot police took positions across the town, while the patrol vehicles were seen moving up and down trying to quell any possible outbreak of protests.
Johnson Kiconco Tibbs, the District police commander, says police has warned the public against taking part in the walk to work demonstration.
But Elias Mugisha, the lead protester, told Uganda Radio Network reporters this morning that they have been forced to cancel their demonstration.
He says that they could not go to the streets to demonstrate without their lawyers who would help to bail them out from Police cells in case of arrests.
