An irate mob has attacked and lynched a suspected boda boda thief in Fort-Portal.
Eddy Atwijukye, a resident of Fort Portal, has been working at Hima Tea factory in Kyenjojo district.
Bakari Basir Muga, the Western Regional Police spokesperson, says that Atwijukye troubles started on Saturday, after he hired a motorcycle registration number UBF 272V, from Simon Mugabe, a boda boda operator at Kaswa stage in Busoro sub county Kabarole district.
According to their terms of agreement, Atwijukye was supposed to return the motorcycle but instead delayed sparking off fears that he had disappered with it.
His luck ran out when some boda boda riders told Mugabe that they had spotted him in Kakabara trading center in Kyegegwa district with the motorcycle.
The aggrieved boda boda cyclists on Monday 9th May went and rounded him up and started quizzing him about the ownership of the motorcycle he was riding. Atwijukye however sneaked and ran to the bush, but the mob followed him and beat him up with batons, sticks and clubs.
The boda boda riders bought kerosene from a nearby trading center and set his body on fire.
The police boss says that by the time police came, they found Eddy already killed and the body in flames.
He however says no arrests have been made in connection with the murder.
Eddy’s body is lying in Kyegegwa health center four mortuary.
