Bunyoro kingdom is hunting for over 195 million shillings for the 17th anniversary celebration of the coronation of the Omukama. The annual event is held every year on June 11 at Karuziika Palace in Hoima town. With only a few weeks left plans for this year’s celebration are in high gear.
Engineer Yabezi Kiiza, the Bunyoro kingdom premier says that part of the money is need for rehabilitating the Omukama’s Karuziika palace. Despite this, Kiiza says that the kingdom is financially constrained.
Kiiza hopes to fundraise from money from central government, friends both local and international, the kingdom subjects, corporate companies and business personalities among others.
Fundraising drives will also be held both within and outside the kingdom with the aim of achieving this budget. Kiiza reveals that an ecumenical service has been organized at Matridah Gardens in Kampala this Sunday with the aim of fundraising for the coronation event.
The prime minister says beginning next week he would lead a team of organizing committee members to go around the kingdom collecting the pledges and also mobilizing for more support.

This year’s celebration will be marked under the theme, “Building a new Bunyoro” The Empango celebration is an important event in Bunyoro in that it’s when the Omukama remembers the day he was enthroned.
A number of cultural functions among them “amakondere” dance comprise the day’s activities.
Bunyoro-Kitara Culture Minister, John Olimi Nyaboongo says other than remembering the king’s enthronement, its on this occasion that he unveils his future plans for the kingdom and gives accountability to his subjects.
