Joseph Ogema, a resident of Otuboi trading center in Kaberamaido is in trouble for alleged impersonation and defrauding residents of Dokolo district huge sums of money.
Ogema was arrested yesterday and is being held at Dokolo Central Police station.
Henry Alyanga, Central North Police spokesman says Ogema went to Okwalongwen and Batta sub counties early this month and told residents that he was an employee of the Ndeeda based Uganda Voluntary Mobilization Organization.
Ogema reportedly told the residents that he was tasked by government to recruit, mobilize communities to support and benefit from government programs.
Alyanga says that Ogema recruited several people from Batta and Okwalngwen Sub Counties at a fee of shillings 2000 each to enable him open for them bank accounts.
According to the police spokesman by the time of his arrest, Ogema was only found with shillings 250,000. Alyanga says that Ogema had successfully recruited all the LC I chairperson in Okwalongwen and Batta sub counties.
Nelson Ojok, a resident of Batta Sub County is one of the victims of Ogema. Ojok says that he paid the money after he was convinced by Ogema that he would help him benefit from government programs.
He explains that several residents rushed to register after Ogema told them that government would start paying them salaries through their bank accounts.
Alyanga says that Ogema has been charged with impersonation and obtaining money by false pretence.
