60- Year -old Wilber Baryamwishaki alias Kawonawo, a resident of Rwenyunyuzi in Kyenjojo is to spend the next 23 years in jail for aggravate defilement. Baryamwishaki appeared yesterday in Fort Portal High court before Justice Akiiki Dan Kiiza who found him guilty of aggravated defilement.

Court heard that on the 18th July 2008 while in Rwenyunyuzi village at around 1:00pm Baryamwishaki defiled an 8-old-girl who was returning from school. It is alleged that the suspect grabbed his victim from the road and dragged her to the nearby bush where he defiled her.

A 10-year-old boy, who saw Baryamwishaki in action on the fateful day, testified in court pinning him on the crime.
The minor told court that he saw Baryamwishaki on top his victim when he had gone to his mother’s garden to pick some maize and made an alarm that attracted residents.

A medical examination report carried out on the victim shows that she was defiled because her hymen was ruptured. Baryamwishaki pleaded not guilty to the charges saying that he was not in the village during the time the alleged incident occurred.

In his ruling, Justice Akiiki Dan Kiiza, found the accused guilty. Kiiza blasted the suspect for defiling a girl who is fit to be his own grand daughter. He said the accused would have been sentenced to death but reduced the sentence to 23 years in jail because of his advanced age.

Justice Kiiza noted with concern the increasing cases of defilement saying that it affects the future of the minors.
