Over 100 amateur golfers and 13 professionals are to take part in the 5th edition of the source of the Nile Eskom Golf Tournament that starts tomorrow at Jinja Golf club.
The players have been drawn from the districts of Kabale, Mbarara, Tororo, Jinja, Kasese, Kinyara, Lugazi, Entebbe, Kampala, and Fort Portal amongst others. Defending champions Deo Akope and Fred Wanzala are expected to face stiff competition from their rival for the top prize.
Big names like Brian Torit who lost last year's title to Akope, Dennis Anguyo and George Olayo have promised to put up still competition. In the women category, Monica Ntege and Petra Nalwoga have also promised to fearlessly defend their titles.
Carol Namyalo, the public relations officer of the organizing committee says that top winners will share shillings 5 million while other prizes will be awarded to group winners in both men and women categories.
Other prominent figures expected to feature in the tournament are former health minister Jim Muhwezi, State Minister for works and Transport John Byabagambi, General Ivan Koleta and General Benon Bilaalo.
Jinja golf club is a 9-hole golf field and it’s among the country's top golf courses.
