Sarafino Oleti Iryoto, the physical planner of Masaka Municipality has been arrested for alleged corruption. Oleti was picked yesterday from his offices near the former home of Masaka Mayor by operatives from the Inspectorate of Government.
Reuben Bainomujuni, the Southern Regional Inspectorate officer says that Oleti is wanted for receiving a bribe of shillings 50,000 to sign land documents authorizing the construction of a building in Masaka town. Despite the fact that Bainomujuni does not reveal the identities of the complainant, he says that set up a trap to nab Oleti after receiving several allegations of corruption in the land office.
He explains that Oleti was netted after receiving shillings 50,000 as inducement to approve the construction of a building in Katwe-Butego Division. Bainomujuni warns public officers in Masaka to trade carefully saying that he has a list of all official implicated in corruption scandals.
Noah Sserunjogi, the Southern Region Police Spokesperson says Oleti is detained at Masaka Central police station but will be transferred to Kampala to Kampala to face anti corruption court. But Oleti blames his arrested on his enemies in Masaka Municipal council who are after his job.
Recently, the Inspectorate of Government also arrested Richard Turyomunsi, a police detective attached to Nyendo police post for receiving a bribe of shillings 100,000 to release a police exhibit.
