Four women are among seven councilors contesting to be speaker for Kabarole district local council.
The election of the speaker will take place on Monday.
The women contesting are Florence Kadoma, the councilor representing Bukuku sub county, Rose Mary Byabasaija for Kisomoro SubCounty, Amina Kaija representing KibiitoSubCountyand Stella Kabasiita, the female youth councilor.
No woman has ever been elected district speaker in Kabarole district.
The women will face competition from three male councilors, Joram Bintamanya of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) representing South Division, Clovis Mugabo of Mugusu Sub County and Richard Nyakana representing Busoro Sub County.
Kadoma says that she has experience to steer the council, having spent eight years as a councilor.
She. plans to revive council resolutions that were never implemented in the past five years.

Cue out: “…priority in the five years.”//
Byabasaija says that it is time for women to be given an opportunity to lead the council. She says it is monotonous for men to be district speakers as though there are no women in the council.
Another female councilor, Sylvia Rwabwogo representing Fort Portal municipality is also contesting for deputy speaker. There is no other person who has so far shown interest in the post.
The race for speaker has also dragged in the Kabarole district women council.
Last evening, Faith Mpaka, the chairperson of the council met the four contestants and urged three of them to step down for Kadoma who will battle it out with the men. However none of them agreed to withdrawal from the race.
The district council consists of 42 councilors.
