Bunyoro-Kitara kingdom could be forced to revise the budget for this year’s Empango celebrations after failing raise the required amount.
Over 195 million shillings had been budgeted for the 17th coronation anniversary scheduled for June 11th 2011.
But Engineer Yabezi Kiiza, the Kingdom premier said they haven't been able to raise the money just days to the event. Kiiza did not disclose how much had been collected so far, but he said they were still a long way off the target.
Engineer Kiiza says they had anticipated support from politicians, friends and omukama’s subjects both within and outside the kingdom.
But now many of the politicians say they spent a lot in the campaigns while non politicians say they have paid money for their children's school fees.
The kingdom is now only looking out to corporate companies, central government and friends abroad for funding.
Kiiza says despite the funding constraints the kingdom cannot afford to miss such an important event. As part of preparations for the even, the Omukama’s Karuziika palace in Hoima town is being given a facelift.
