UPDF soldier sentenced to life imprisonment for Murder

Police
A UPDF soldier attached to Lukaya army detach in Lukaya town council, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for murder and robbery.

The court martial presided over Col John Mateka, jailed Private Patrick Edema in connection with the murder of Moses Musasizi, the former speaker of Lukaya town council.

Court heard that Private Patrick Edema, armed with a panga and a gun attacked Moses Musasizi and her wife Rose Namutebi, at their home in Lukaya town at around 10pm and robbed them of 420,000 shillings.

When the couple went to Bulakati army detach the following day to complain, Edema instead shot Moses Musasizi in the chest and stomach killing him on the spot.

Court also heard that before he robbed the couple, and killed Musasizi, Patrick Edema was still serving another sentence of five years for participating in another robbery in Masaka town.

Edema pleaded guilty to the charges of harming Rose Namutebi and killing Moses Musasizi, but denied allegations that he participated in the robbery.

In his ruling, the head of the court martial, Col John Mateka said that private Patrick Edema was a habitual offender and sentenced him to life imprisonment.

Col Mateka noted that  the UPDF does not tolerate indiscipline and that the errant soldier should be kept away from the public.
