People in Lango are worried of acute famine as the Mango season comes to an end. According to some residents they have been relying on fresh Mangoes to feed their families because they can not afford the high food prices.

Sarah Akello, a resident of Bala in Kole district says that her family has done without breakfast and lunch for the past four months. Akello says that she has been surviving on mangoes with members of her family but she is worried that the mango season is coming to an end.

Akello says that she does not know what to do when the mangoes finally get finished. She wants government to intervene and do something to help people in the region saying that they have suffered enough. Janet Adong, a resident of Oyam says that, they thought government would address the issue of high food and commodity prices in the 2011/2012 financial year budget in vain.

Adong says removing taxes from kerosene and sugar will not entirely help them since the most essential commodities like soap are still too costly. She explains that a bar of soap that used to cost shillings 2200 now goes for shillings 4000.

Morris Odung Omara, Mayor Lira Municipality asks his electorate to calm down as the rain season is setting in. Odung says that he has high hopes the food prices will normalize soon.
