Jinja Magistrates’ court has remanded a detective attached to Kaliro Criminal Investigations Department for alleged theft of a car. Aggrey Mudago appeared yesterday before Amos Kwezira, Jinja chief magistrate.
He was charged with the theft of a Premio car of registration number UAH 832J belonging to Alimansi Isabirye. Prosecution told court that Mudago stole the car on December 28, 2009 at Clive road in Jinja and fled into hiding.
Mudago was arrested recently when he was found with the stolen car in Namanve, where he was involved in an accident. He pleaded not guilty to the charges saying that he had hired the car from someone.
Mudago applied for bail that was rejected by Kwizera because of inconsistencies in his statements and lack of a proper identity card. In his ruling Kwizera said that he had denied Mudago bail because court was convinced that he was not a reliable person.
He said that the suspect had told court that he lives at Aldina and later changed to Kutch road which raises suspicion. Kwezira therefore remanded Mudago to Kirinya prison until Monday, when he will produce credible people to stand surety for him.
