Health Workers in Lira Municipal Council Threaten to Stage Salary Strike

News
Health Workers in Lira Municipality Plan to stage sit down strike over unpaid salaries
Health workers within Lira municipality have threatened to go on a sit down strike, to protest against the delayed payment of their May salaries.

On Monday, the health workers stormed the town clerks office demanding to know why their May salaries have not been paid and why no one has bothered to communicate the cause of the delays.

Dr. Oremo Robert, the Municipal health officer, admits that the health workers salary for the month of May has not been paid. He however says that the salaries will be cleared soon.

Dr.Oremo advised the workers to desist from a strike arguing that such a strike would affect the life of the community.

Paul Omoko, the Lira municipality town clerk, explained that the salary has not yet been remitted by the Finance ministry.

In 2008 medical workers at Lira regional referral hospital went on strike resulting into the deaths of 11 patients.
