Doctors at Mulago Hospital are conducting more tests on the conjoined twins admitted on Tuesday night. According to Dan Kimosho, the public Relations Officer Mulago Hospital, today the doctors are expected to look at the heart condition of each baby, the liver, abdominal scanning, the brain function and the blood cells count.

All the tests will enable the doctors know how and when to conduct the surgery to separate the babies.

Kimosho says that the male conjoined twins, who were born in Kabale District a week ago, are doing okay as they await the various tests. They were transferred to Mulago Hospital on Tuesday night.

It is not yet clear when the medical report will be out. Chances of giving birth to conjoined twins are rare and estimated to range from 1 in 50,000 births to 1 in 100,000 births, with a somewhat higher incidence in Southwest Asia and Africa.

Approximately half are stillborn, and a smaller fraction of pairs born alive have abnormalities incompatible with life.
