Actor and director Forest Whitaker, appointed UNESCO Good will ambassador

Actor and director Forest Whitaker, who won an award for his portrayal of former Ugandan president, the Late Idi Amin dada in “The Last King of Scotland” has been named goodwill ambassador for peace and reconciliation for the United Nations’ educational, scientific and cultural body, UNESCO.

As a good will ambassador, Whitake will be expected to help educate people and mobilize governments in favor of youth programmes on peace, education, human rights and global citizenship.

Whitaker says that he is optimistic about his new role.

Whitaker directed the film “Better Angels” a story about Ugandan child soldiers.
