Community Medicine Distributors in Mella sub county Tororo district, have refused to carry out mass drug administration against Neglected Tropical Disease [NTP] in the area, due to little pay.
More than 200, community medicine distributors refused to take part in the exercise demanding for an increase in their pay from the current 2,000 shillings to 5,000 shillings. The money is usually paid at the end of the excercise.
Georwell Emanu, the NTD and Malaria district focal person, said the action by the CMD’s is likely to increase the spread of bilharzia, elephantiasis and intestinal worms in the sub county.
Emanu said the exercise now targets all schools so that children who could have missed the doses at their home or those from out side the district can equally benefit from vaccination.
Emanu said 63 sub country supervisors have been trained to conduct training of teachers to carry out voluntary exercise at their respective schools.
