The use of new synthetic drugs and the abuse of prescription drugs, is on the increase according to the World Drug Report, released n Thursday.
According to the report, some 210 million people, aged between 15 and 64, took illicit substances at least once last year.
The report by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) however shows that the global markets for cocaine, heroin and marijuana, the most used drug of choice, has either declined or remained stable.
Yury Fedotov, the Executive Director of UNODC says efforts to slow the production of poppy and cannabis helped curb usage, but those gains could be short-lived.
