Calm has returned to Katakwi following weeks of renewed cattle rustling.
Cattle rustlers have since June raided Amuria and Katakwi districts stealing cattle and killing people.
The raids left Richard Ogwang the LC1 Chairperson of Ngariam Pallam dead and forced 45 families to seek refuge in Acanga Internally Displaced people’s camp.
On Saturday, the leadership of Katakwi said that the deployment of mobile police patrol units has brought relief to the people and some of them have returned to their homes.
Robert Ekongot, the Katakwi LC5 Chairperson, explains that 200 mobile police were deployed in the area and 40 motorcycles were handed over to the district for rapid response.
Humanitarian agencies have not responded to the plight of the IDPs.
Catherine Ntabade the Communications Director of Uganda Red Cross-URC says her organization had not yet carried out relief assessment in the area.
