Jonan Ogwang, the Kole District National Agricultural Advisorys’ (NAADS) accountant has been arrested for his alleged involvement in the embezzlement of 89 million shillings.
Ogwang was arrested on Friday evening from Apac town council where he was reportedly hiding.
Richard Ekwang, the chief detective officer, says Ogwang went missing from the office a month ago, shortly after polic recieved a complaint from the district NAADS’ coordinator, Odur Francis.
Odur instructed the police to investigate the circumstances under which about shillings 89 million disappeared from the districts NAADS account, in Stanbic bank Lira branch.
Ogwang allegedly withdrew the money between March 22nd and April 14th, after which he absconded from duty and allegdely used part of the money to buy a posh car. The car was impounded on Friday.
But Ogwang has denied the claims. He is being held at Kole central police station, pending investigations.
Kole district boss, Peter Ocen-Akalo, says Ogwang is also facing a string of several corruption cases, involving forging of signatures.
