Kitgum district council has ordered for investigations into the past record of the newly appointed members of Kitgum Hospital Management Committee. They are Reverend Canon Nicholas Odongpiny, the chairperson, Mary Filda Laker, Margaret Acayo and David Mukidi.
It follows allegations that some of the officials who were selected by the old district executive were implicated for corruption and theft of hospital property. Luka Nyeko, Kitgum District LC V chairman says that some of the officials worked in the hospital and fell out with the management because of their conduct.
He says that when his executive met recently, it was discovered that some of the officials were not fit to hold the positions. Nyeko says that they had resolved to revoke the names of the officials and appoint new ones but the district council decided to set up a probe before taking the final decision.

Cue out: “…satisfied with what we got in the files”//
According to Nyeko, Kitgum district has suffered for long because of corrupt managers and does not want a repeat of the situation. He says after investigations only those officials found to be clean will be retained. Geoffrey Oguti, Kitgum district council speaker has tasked the health committee to handle the investigations and report back to council without delay.
Oguti says that he is satisfied that the committee will perform its task diligently. He says that the committee will refer any of the officials found with a criminal record to police for prosecution;
//Cue in: “the health committee will go and…”
Cue out: “come out what we want them to do”//
Oguti says that the council will later decide whether or not to probe the entire operation of the district hospital. None of the appointed officials have commented on the matter as they could not pick or return the calls of our reporter.
