Lightning has struck St. Andrea Kaahwa’s Secondary school in Hoima district leaving 14 students admitted.
The catholic founded school was struck last night during a heavy downpour that lasted about an hour.
The victims, all female students are admitted at Bujumbura dispensary in Bujumbura division, Hoima municipality.
Pascal Kihika, the school head teacher has confirms the incident but says no school property was destroyed.
He says the incident occurred at around 9:30pm as students were in their evening preps. Kihika reveals that senior one, two and three classes were affected most.
The victims include three students from senior one, five in senior two and two from senior three.
Grace Kusemererwa a senior six student was also struck. She says the incident occurred while she was revising her geography notes.
She explains that she heard an extra-ordinary blast and saw light before she lost consciousness.
She says after regaining consciousness, all her legs, arms and other body parts were paralyzed.
Shamim Kiiza a senior two victim says it all started after the school generator started going on and off and at the end of it all a large blast occurred.
She says after the blast, every body in the room was left lying on the floor and did not know what followed but only found her self in hospital.
Anthony Bingi Jeremo, the in charge Bujumbura dispensary says those admitted are responding well to treatment.
According to him, seven students were brought in critical condition but have now improved. He adds that they had only suffered shock.

Ibrahim Bigabwa, the municipal council education officer has cautioned schools against switching on their electric appliances during rain.
In a related incident, a 19 year old house maid was also struck by lightning at Kinubi in Hoima Municipality. Scovia Atugonza was struck as she was in the kitchen during the heavy down pour last evening.
She is admitted at Devine clinic in Hoima town nursing shock.
