Unidentified number of people is feared dead in Buliisa following another boat accident on Lake Albert. The accident occurred on Sunday night at about 10pm. Pascal Ecumu, the Officer in charge police Marines Unit on Lake Albert says the accident occurred between Kaborwa and Nyamukuta landing sites in Buliisa district.
The ill-fated boat was moving from Hoimo Landing site in Hoima district to Panyimur market in Nebbi district when it capsized. Ecumu says he is yet to confirm the number of people who were on board as his team is still on ground. However a survivor and an eye witness say over twenty passengers were on the boat with their merchandise including fish.
Eruke a resident of Buseruka in Hoima says that he survived the accident when swam to the lake shores after the boat capsized. The marine official has blamed the accident on bad weather saying the lake is too windy adding that his personnel is also finding it difficult to navigate the water.
This is the second accident on the lake within a space of two week. A fortnight ago, 16 people drowned after their boat capsized between Butiaba and Majipolo landing sites in Buliisa. The boat was carrying 22 mourners and a body for burial in Eastern D.R Congo. Only six passengers survived the boat accident. So far bodies of 10 passengers have been retrieved from the lake.
