11 feared dead, 6 rescued after lake albert boat accident.
Six people have been rescued from Lake Albert following a boat accident last evening. Five of the survivors were rescued on the Congo’s side of the Lake while only one was rescued from Nyamukuta landing site in Uganda.
Pascal Ecumu, the Officer in charge the police Marine unit on Lake Albert identifies only one of the survivors as Oruke Oyeti, a trader from Buseruka Sub County in Hoima. Identities of the survivors rescued from the Congo side are yet to be ascertained. According to Ecumu, 17 were aboard the boat when it capsized.
The ill-fated boat was moving from Hoimo Landing site in Hoima district to Panyimur market in Nebbi district at the time it capsized. The boat carried fish and other trade merchandise. Ecumu says a search for bodies and other possible survivors begins tomorrow.
The marine official has blamed the accident on bad weather saying the lake is too windy adding that his personnel are also finding it difficult to navigate the water.
