Court Issues Criminal Summons Against Elias Lukwago

Court
Buganda Road Grade One Magistrate John Patrick Wekesa has issued criminal summons against the Kampala Lord Mayor, Elias Lukwago.

Lukwago is wanted to answer two counts of inciting violence allegedly committed on the 9th of September 2009, on “Kalasa Mayanzi” a mid-morning programme on Central Broadcasting Service.

The Lord Mayor is required to appear on the 4th of August.

The state alleges that Lukwago, without lawful excuse made statements implying that it would be desirable to do acts calculated to bring death or physical injury to a person perceived to oppose the Kabaka’s visit to Kayunga district, on the 12th of September 2009.

He is also accused of inciting youth to destroy public property.

Efforts to get Lukwago to confirm if he has received the summons have been futile as he is reportedly attending a Kampala Capital City Authority retreat in Entebbe.
